Table Tennis Open Tournament on July 3-4, 2010

What business does a table tennis tournament has on a chess club or a chess blog? Well, chess and table tennis is very complimentary. After long hours of mental battle over the chess board, a game of table tennis will surely be a good relief for mental stress. Thus, the antique chess society has put up a table tennis area in the chess club headquarters at Alec and Al Cafe and Snackhouse. Our new motto is: healthy mind and healthy body. On July 3-4, 2010, a table tennis tournament will be held. This is open to all interested. No registration fee. Games will be played on a best of 3 fomat.

Von Aquino wins Rapid Chess





Von Steven Aquino won the first Rapid Chess tournament held last June 12-13, 2010 at the Alex and Al Cafe and Snackhouse. John Mark Grasparil came in second. Edwin Leabriz and Lou Vincent Baculna finished tied for 3rd. The tournament was sponsored by Palau-based Engr. Jerry Sermeno.

June 2010 Rapid chess

Engr. Jerry Sermeno, a balikbayan who works in Palau Island, will sponsor a Rapid Chess tournament on june 19, 2010 at the Alex and Al cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique. This will be on a five round, 25 minutes time control, Swiss system. No registration fee is required.

John Mark Grasparil wins June 2010 Open chess









John Mark Grasparil scored a thrilling victory against erstwhile leader Von Steven Aquino in the final round to take solo first place and rule the June 2010 Open Chess Tournament. Four players tied for second to fifth places namely Von Steven Aquino, Edwin Leabriz, Arnel Amar and Nick Contreras. 14 players participated in this monthly event played at the Alex and Al Cafe and Snackhouse last June 12-13, 2010.
