The July 2009 Edition of the Open Chess Tournament is set on July 11-12, 2009 at the Alex and Al Cafe and Snackhouse. This will be open to all interested. No registration fee. Five round swiss system format.

Vea Alyssa Amedo wins 12 Under Tournament

Vea Alyssa T. Amedo won the 12 Under Chess Tournament held at Alex and Al Cafe and Restaurant on June 13, 2009. Second place went to Flaviano Atienza. Third was April Shannon Rafols. Kenneth Manuel and Jose Maria Anceno got 4th and 5th places respectively.

12 Under Tournament set on June 13, 2009

The 12-Under chess tournament is set on Saturday, June 13, 2009. This is open to all players 12 years old and below. This will be a five round Swiss system. No registration fee is required. Register at Alex and Al Cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique.

Joselito Castro wins June 2009 Open Chess

Joselito Castro of Cebu amazingly crushed all his opponents to score a perfect 5 out of five rounds and win the June 2009 Edition of the monthly open chess tournament held at the Alex and Al Cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique. He defeated top seeded Nelson Trayfalgar Jr in the third round and defending Champion Nick Contreras in the fourth round en route to capturing the crown.

John Mark Grasparil finished second with 4 points. Four players finished tied for third place with 3 points. A total of 13 players joined the tournament.

The event, named Ilabas 2009 – Pangpamatan-un nga Torneyo kang Chess sa Sibalom, started on May 27, 2009 at the Alex & Al Café and Snack House in District II, and ended on May 28, 2009 at the Ilabas Barangay Hall. The event was supported by the following: the Barangay Council of Ilabas which is led by Honorable Gemma Grafane-Tabiling; the Sangguniang Kabataan of Ilabas which is led by Honorable Livelie Ann C. Grafane; the Sibalom Tree-Planting Movement; Nestle Philippines, Inc.; Sangguniang Bayan Member Zenaida E. Baraquia; Philippine Councilors’ League-Antique Chapter President Edgar D. Denosta; and Linlin’s Store. The project manager was Von Steven L. Aquino, and the assistant project manager was Benjamen B. Evardone Jr.
