14 year old Lou Vincent Baculna spanks some veteran players to win the Atty. Hector Legazpi Frangue Christmas Open Chess Tournament ahead of 35 other players. The tournament, sponsored by the youthful, sports committed former provincial legislator, was held at the Alex and Al cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique last December 11-12, 2010. 36 players participated. Free lunch was served courtesy of Atty. Frangue. During the awarding ceremony, Atty. Hector Frangue extended some financial assistance to Mrs. Rose Lyn Perez, wife of chess player Generoso Perez, who is undergoing medical treatment.

11 year old Angie Lou S. Matriano of Tobias Fornier, Antique wins the Atty. Hector Legazpi Frangue 12- under Christmas chess tournament last December 11, 2010 at the Alex and Al cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique. A 3-way tie for second place were shared by 9 year old Benju Castillon of Bugasong, 11 year old April Marie Magbanua of Tobias Fornier, and 7 ear old Gerald Michael Hans Bartolo of Bugasong. Atty. Hector L. Frangue sponsors December 2010 tournament
In spirit of the Buruyluganay Festival in Sibalom, the Antique Chess Society will hold its December schedule of the monthly chess tournament on December 11-12, 2010 at the Municipal Plaza of Sibalom. The tournament is sponsored by Atty. Hector Frangue. This youthful, single, and sportsminded lawyer contributed P10,000.00 for the cash prizes. Miguel Descalzo teaches foes, wins November Open Chess
Veteran player Miguel Descalzo taught his opponents some lessons in chess by capturing the November Edition of the Open Chess tournament. Second place went to John Mark Grasparil. Tied for third place were Von Steven Aquino and Edwin Leabriz. Vea Alyssa Amedo got the best female player. 19 players played in this 5 round Swiss system event.

November 2010 Edition Open Chess on November 6-7
The November 2010 Edition of the monthly open chess tournament will be held on November 6-7, 2010 at the Alex and Al cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique. This will be open to all interested. This will be played on a five round, Swiss system format. No registration fee is required.
John Mark wins Open Table Tennis; Giovanni Pasaquian wins Elementary
John Mark Grasparil defeated Lou Vincent Baculna in the Championship round to win the second open Table Tennis Tournament last October 30-31, 2010 at the Pingpong and Chess Center of Sibalom (PACCS) c/o Alex and Al Cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique. Third Place went to Von Steven Aquino who defeated Giovanni Pasaquian in the consolation round. Meanwhile, in the Elementary Level, Giovanni Pasaquian easily conquered his opponents to emerged Champion. Aldrin Badoy took second place. Table Tennis is a complimentary game to chess. Physical conditioning is important to mental stamina. There is truth to the saying that goes, "Healthy mind, healthy body".

Top seeded Von Steven Aquino won the 2nd Sibalom Water District Anniversary Open Chess Tournament. Arnel Amar was solo second. Fast rising teener Lou Baculna, Nick Contreras and Generoso Perez tied for 3rd to 5th places. 20 players participated. Atty. Hector Frangue and Hon. Belton Java Jr. made the opening moves.

Von Steven Aquino wins September 2010 Open
Von Steven Aquino outplayed erstwhile leader Miguel Descalzo in the final round to finish Champion of the September 2010 Open Chess Tournament held at the Alex and Al Cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique. Many time monthly champion Miguel Descalzo and Lou Vincent Baculna finished tied for 2nd and 3rd places with 4 points. Arnel Amar and John Mark Grasparil tied for 4th to 5th places with identical 3.5 points. 12 year old Vea Alyssa Amedo was the best female player. The upset of the tournament happened in the first round when 12 year old Vea Alyssa Amedo outplayed veteran player Edwin Leabriz. 18 players participated.

Edzel Pagunsan, Von Aquino tied for first at Belison Chess Open
Edzel Pagunsan edged Von Steven Aquino at the tie break to claim the Championship crown at the recently concluded 2nd Belison Open Chess Tournament. Both actually finished tied for first with 5.5 points but Edzel took the title via a higher Bucholz tie break points. Third place went to Nonie Ballarta. Miguel Descalzo and Nick Contreras finished 4th and 5th respectively.

Belison Open Chess Tournament; Baculna wins top honors
The Belison Chess Federation, in cooperation with newly elected Mayor Darell Dela Flor, holds its first Open Chess Tournament last July 24-25, 2010 at Diok-Diok Recreation Center, Belison Antique. The tournament is sponsored by Kangaroo Internet Cafe, Ronald 'Dodong' Del Rosario, Rosauro Aurelio Jr., John John Protacio, Hon. Simplicio Tagle, Kgwd. Amado Omanio, AUP Builders Limited, Ronald Fernando, and Kgwd. Ruben Balbuena.
14 year old Lou Vincent Baculna rules the event with a perfect score. Tied for second to third places were Von Steven Aquino and Deonato Petinglay. Solo fourth place was young promising Diok-diok Delima. General Eduardo Gonzaga and Engr. Ronald Del Rosario represented Mayor Darell Dele Flor during the awarding. Mr. Voltaire Pagunsan and Nonette Delima were persons very much responsible for the success of the tournament.

Arnel Amar rules July 2010 Chess Tournament
Arnel Amar ruled the July 2010 Edition of the monthly chess tournament held at the Alex and Al Cafe and Snackhouse last June 17-18, 2010. Fresh from winning the Pingpong Tournament early this month, the King of table tennis crowned himself King of Chess for the month of July as well. Deonato Petinglay played a beautiful mating combination with the black pieces to topple erstwhile leader Von Steven Aquino to place second. Von Steven Aquino finished solo third. A total of 16 players participated.
