The February 2009 Edition of the Opent Chess Tournament will be on February 7-8, 2009 at Alex and Al cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom, Antique.
This tournament is open to all interested players and will be played on a 5- round Swiss system, 1-hour play to finish format.

18 - Under and 12 - Under Chess Tournaments
The bi- monthly youth chess tournament (18 - Under) will be on Jauary 31, 2009 to February 1, 2009. Also, on this this date will be the first bi-monthly 12-under chess tournament.
The 18- Under chess tournaments will be open to all interested players age 18 years old and below. This will be played on a five-round swiss system format.
The 12 - Under chess tournament is open to all interested players age 12 years old and below. This will also be played on a 5- round Swiss system format. This new age category tournament will be held bi-monthly. This will aim to develop and discover young chess talents.

Contreras wins January 2009 Open Chess Tournament
Provincial Master Nick Contreras wins the January 2009 Open Chess Tournament with an exciting win in the last round over Senior Master Miguel Descalzo. PM Contreras actually finished tied with PM John Mark Grasparil at 4 points apiece after 5 rounds. However, PM Contreras emerged as the champion via higher tie break points.
SM Miguel Descalzo tied with Municipal Master Rex Daguinotan at 3.5 points apiece but finished with a higher tie break to finished Third. Four players finished tied with 3 points to share the prize for the Fifth Place.

John Mark Grasparil takes solo lead after 3 rounds
November champion and second seeded John Mark Grasparil takes a solo lead with 3 points after 3 rounds of the ongoing January 2009 Edition of the Open Chess Tournament held at Alex and Al cafe and Snackhouse, Sibalom Antique. Top seed Miguel Descalzo and Joselito Castro closely follow at 2nd to 3rd place with 2.5 points. 16 players joined the field.
